Traditional British carvery restaurant

The Toby Carvery Maes Knoll in Bristol, England, is a classic British pub and restaurant dedicated to the art of traditional carvery. As part of the well-known Toby Carvery chain, which refers to itself as the "Home of the Roast," this establishment has carved out a firm place in the culinary landscape of the Whitchurch Village area. It attracts a diverse clientele—from families to couples and regulars—who appreciate the flavor of a perfectly cooked roast and the cozy pub atmosphere. The restaurant combines traditional values with a modern approach, offering a reliable option for any occasion, whether it’s a Sunday roast or a spontaneous visit during the week.

Cozy pub with beer garden

The decor is typical of a British pub: rustic wooden furniture, warm lighting, and an open, inviting space create a homely ambiance. Notably, the generous beer garden is a popular choice in good weather and can be utilized on cooler days with heated areas. Inside, the open carvery counter adds a touch of theater, as guests can see the meat being freshly carved. The venue is family-friendly, with amenities such as high chairs and a menu that caters to even the youngest visitors. The ability to reserve tables online makes the visit even more convenient, especially for larger groups or on busy days.

Delicious breakfast buffet at pub

Culinarily, Toby Carvery Maes Knoll stands for the classic British roast, prepared here with dedication and care. The heart of the restaurant is the carvery area, where succulent meats such as tender roast beef or savory turkey are freshly sliced, accompanied by fluffy Yorkshire puddings baked in-house daily. The hand-ruffed roast potatoes, crispy and golden brown, are another highlight, served with a rich, flavorful gravy that is often praised as the best part of the entire experience. The macaroni cheese, creamy and hearty, adds a modern twist to the traditional offerings. For those who don’t eat meat, there are tasty alternatives like the vegetable roast served with a melted Camembert core. For dessert, the chocolate fudge cake tempts with its warm chocolate sauce, making for the perfect ending.

Friendly service at restaurant

In addition to the carvery offering, there is also a breakfast buffet featuring classics such as sausages, bacon, and hash browns, which is particularly popular among guests looking to start their day satisfied and happy. The drinks menu offers a solid selection of local beers, wines, and non-alcoholic options that complement the meals well. Particularly convenient is the ability to order via an app, which speeds up service and makes the visit even more relaxed.

Sunday roast in British pub

Service is often described as friendly and efficient, with staff eager to provide guests with a positive experience. The employees at the carvery counter are trained to cater to individual requests and contribute to the warm atmosphere with their personable approach. Despite occasional peak times, especially on weekends, operations typically run smoothly, although demand for the popular roast can sometimes lead to short wait times.

I had breakfast here and my experience was not very good. I visited with still about an hour to go of breakfast service, so was disappointed to see very limited food on offer, lots of which had been sitting under the heat lamps for clearly a while. Eggs were served still raw, and no scrabbled egg. Staff were friendly but very disappointed with the food quality. The price shown on the website was not correct either. Said £6.49 Monday to Friday and was charged £9.

We were a party of 3 with one elderly man with mobility issue's on booking in Ryan could not have been more caring. By accommodating for our problem. Charlotte took over at the table and also found time to check we were OK, despite being very busy.

I loves Toby's for all the above, I give the service a 4 star doesn't mean that the staff are not friendly, but that my experience has been that they are too busy to be available all the time.

Booked a table only to be told we would have to wait another 20-30 minutes to be seated. On top of the massive queue for food. Then over heard the staff saying they were going to run out of meat very soon. So we left

Probably the worst restaurant I’ve ever had the misfortune of dining in. What on gods green earth went wrong here? Came for a succulent Sunday roast dinner which you thought they’d be prepared for. It seemed to come as a shock to this restaurant who were direly underprepared for the Sunday rush. Waited half an hour for our booking camped out next to the fruities only to be moved on to a queue longer than I’ve seen outside Curry’s on a Black Friday. We queued 45 minutes for the carvery which was dishing out approximately one meal per minute Credit to them, they are taking social distancing very seriously ensuring there was only ever one chef serving the queue which only grew, unlike my temper which got shorter and shorter. Now nobody likes a sausage party, but they took it a step too far, with no chipolatas behind the deck which they still had the cheek to charge me for! I saw more sausage in the girls toilets. So I’d. say I was feeling cheesed off at this point but there was no cauliflower cheese or mac and cheese either. It was boiling hot sweat dripping off my head was the only dripping around as there were no dripping potatoes either. Im no god and don’t require the sacrifice of a lamb but I was disappointed in the lack thereof, which ran out shortly before we reached the front of the queue. They offered no rebate for the lack of advertised foods nor the lack of sausages. You couldn’t pay me to come back here.

Went for breakfast, good selection of the usual cooked breakfast at the buffet. was quite busy with coach party. Didn't run out and always either had another dish waiting or came out just before running out. Weekend breakfast has gone up, so not such good value (weekday breakfast seems to have gone up less) Went for dinner recently and it was good very tasty meat, nice atmosphere but busy, very little room left in the large carpark

Wouldn’t recommend this toby at all carver was rude and refused to give me fresh meat so had to go for the freshest looking alternative which was the gammon. I don’t understand why as a customer we’re forced to eat dry food when we’re the consumers and people paying for our food. The waitress’ were nice however just the food and the carver who served us
